The Comet Drive-In opened on July 1, 1949 with Lon Chaney Jr. in “16 Fathoms Deep”. It was designed by Martin Theatres in-house architect, Rufus E. Bland of Columbus, Georgia. This single screen drive-in had a capacity for 400 cars. It was demolished in the 1990’s.

The correct name of the architect of the Comet Drive-In was Rufus E. Bland. As the Martin circuit’s in-house architect, he designed many theaters for them from the late 1940s, and perhaps earlier, until at least as recently as 1973.
