I haven’t been to the AMC 34th Street movie theater for a while I remembered this movie theater used to have the old seats and now I been noticing that this movie theater looks much newer

34th Street seems to be the current, go to, theater for Midtown at the moment ,between 34th, Empire 25, and E-Walk. They were the latest to get upgrades (recliners, more food options, large screens). Much newer looking than fading Empire 25, especially with the bedbugs. Once E-WALK completes their renovations, we will see how things go.

Replying to MovieguyNYC

Theater 1 indeed has no masking ability.
Theater 10 and 14 does have masking and should be in working order again. For a time, last year, 10 was out of order.

Theater 8 (Dolby) and Theater 13 (IMAX) has no masking abilities.bWhich is common for those formats.

All other theaters 2 - 7, 9 - 12, and 14 have masking.

  1. Bedbug bites last summer. Saw two movies here that day: Top Gun in 9 and Jurassic in IMAX. Don’t know in which one I was bitten but it hardly matters - the critters are mobile. Haven’t been back since.
  2. Nobody went here when it first opened. Now it might be more ghetto than the Empire. I have felt unsafe here. It now attracts a particularly rude and rowdy crowd.
  3. Since the renovation, theaters 1, 10 and 14 no longer have masking. Last time I checked, 4, 5, 9, 11 and 12 still had masking. Don’t know about 2, 3, 6 or 7. Might go back soon wearing minimal clothing that I can throw away to avoid bringing critters home. Was also bitten at the Empire in number 25. Sad that you have to consider these things when going to a movie.

2nd Level: When coming off escalator, Theater 9 and 10 are on the right, 11 to 13 on the left (13 is IMAX Laser) and 14 is to the right of the concession if AMC kept it in the renovation. Dontt go there anymore, restrooms are too far from the auditorium are the middle level, Loews poorly designed this theatre.

I know on the 1st theatre level the theatres are: 1-3 on the left; 4 & 5 on the right, 6 is on the 8th Avenue side of the building, past 1-3, and Dolby-7 is on the 33rd street side, with the Main stand on the 9th Avenue side. My question is: How are Theatres #9 to 14 arranged on the 2nd theatre level (I know the upper doors to #6-8 are by the 2nd level concession)?

Is the renovation on hold due to covid? I know AMC is willing to reopen it sooner than later.

It’s maddening that they let the bulbs run down so low. It’s hardly an AMC amazing experience

They have stopped Windowboxing in the remodeled auditoriums :( Also stay clear of Auditoriums 1 and 3 the projection is horrendously dim

So far, 34th Street still has all 14 screens open. This theatre definitely needs recliners, the Sony/Loews signature seats are outdated.

Once 34th Street is done, the other theatres in Manhattan with Sony/Loews signature seats are the Orpheum, Lincoln Square and Harlem USA in Manhattan and of course AMC Love Seats at the Empire.

How about Hertford, Hereford, and Hampshire? (I hear hurricanes hardly ever happen there.)

The AMC New Brunswick 18 and AMC Cherry Hill 24 Theatres are getting the Laser IMAX. Both are currently being renovated for it.
