When this theatre was built by GCC, it was a replacement for their damaged Sherman Oaks 3,4,5 complex. Because of zoning in the area they only could build on the former site of the old triplex and only could seat the same amount of people. So they built four high ceiling little balcony theatre and a small little auditorium upstairs. It opened on December 15, 1995.
This theatre was operated by AMC after the merger of GCC and AMC Theatres. It was last operated by Pacific Theatres. It was closed on March 17, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was announced on April 13, 2021 that the closure would be permanent in all Pacific/ArcLight theatres.

December 15th, 1995 grand opening ad in photo section.
Oddly, certain movies stay at this theater months after they hit DVD. It showed MAD MAX: FURY ROAD for about a year, and it currently has GHOSTBUSTERS: ANSWER THE CALL and SECRET LIFE OF PETS. At first-run prices!
It appears the Sherman Oaks 5 halted showing 35mm last weekend and only have their 2 digital screens listed as showing something through today on Fandango. Tuesday onward has no showtimes. Closing? Or finally going all digital?
Did they used to show the Rocky Horror Picture Show here in the mid-80s? I think I remember going to the old 2-plex and seeing Rocky Horror for the first time here?
How is this place still open as a first run house? With expensive consessions! It is in the shape of a second run house.
No recliner upgrades. The armrests don’t even go up. No stadium seating even.
It really needs to go.
This theater was used as an stand in for a 7 screen movie theater in the Diane Lane movie ¨The Glass House¨ where Leelee Sobieski was seeing an slasher movie.
MikeRadio, you wish was granted, but not in the way any of us were anticipating it was going to happen(since all of Pacific Theaters are now gone for good)
This theater is sitting with the same marquee as the day it closed. I can imagine the rodent fest going on inside.
It’s just not needed any more.
Another year since my last comment and this place, just sits there.
This theater is featured in the Netflix show monsters the Lyle and Erik Menendez story. They go and buy tickets here and you could see activity inside. It is in the first episode.
