This is a flea market and farmers market on the drive-in on sundays only too.
Why the name Circle?
Launched September 10, 1949 with “Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves.”
I saw a double feature here last week, happy to report images on both screens were bright and clear. Six new photos added.

The Circle web site says the drive-in was built in 1945, but its first appearance in the Theatre Catalogs was in the 1949-50 edition, owner Albert Frangel, capacity 700 cars. That’s pretty much how it stayed through the 1955-56 edition. (There was an Albert Frengel of Frengel Motor Car company in New Castle PA at the time. Same guy?)
The owner listed in the 1952-53 Motion Picture Almanac was E. Hollander (Allied Circuit). It switched to just the Allied Circuit in the 1955-59 editions. Milgrim Bkg. Serv. was the “owner or booker” in 1961-66. The MPAs showed a capacity of 500.
The 1978-84 MPAs listed the Circle in Scranton, owner M. J. (Michael) Delfino, capacity 600. The locale switched to Carbondale in the 1986-88 editions.
They added a second screen this fall.

I am pleased to report that they have upgraded to digital, and the picture and the screen have never looked better. Last summer I had the misfortune of witnessing the worst presentation I had ever seen at a professional theater, but this year I have no complaints, just happiness.

I attended the Circle over the holiday weekend while staying for the weekends at a friends summer place. It is a great old place kept very clean and with a fully stocked concession stand. I saw a double bill of “Transporter 2” and “Wedding Crashers” for only $6. My only complaints are that the screen desperately needs to be painted, there is rust where the sections are joined together. The other thing is they play no drive-in candy snipes and no trailers except for the ones that come attached to the feature. There was a short intermission between films that was lacking all those fun shorts we all loved.
