The Empress Theatre was opened by 1914. It was renamed State Thetare in 1932. Located right on S. Main Street, this old small town theatre is still in operation. It features two first run films nightly with matinees on weekends and a seperate admission for each feature.
The theatre also features a video rental in the lobby to suppliment income.
The building itself is a two story blond brick building. It has a number of large poster cases along the front of the building. It also has a squared marquee over the entrance with no attraction panels, just “State Theatre” in neon. The theatre also has a good sized vertical with “State” spelled out on it.

The State Theatre opened as the Empress Theatre in the early-1920’s. It became the State in 1932. This theatre has made the conversion to digital and 3D projection.
The Empress Theatre was one of two houses listed at Chamberlain in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory, the other being the Electric Theatre. Both were located on Main Street. In 1913 there was a house called the Julian Theatre, which might have been an aka for either the Empress or the Electric.
