I believe my great uncle (my great grandfather’s brother), Charles D. Silcox built the Bridesburg Theater. Per a notice in the Phila. Inquirer that he intended to build a movie theater on a lot he had purchased at Bridge and Richmond Sts. (Re: Philadelphia Inquirer – Sunday, December 15, 1912)
Opening day for the Bridesburg Theater was Friday, August 22, 1913. If anyone has any additional info. about the Bridesburg — newspaper clippings, photos, anything — please share, and thanks!
The Bridesburg Theater was a victim of the Great Depression and closed in 1933. The theater was purchased by the Rohm & Haas Company and converted to a company gymnasium in 1942. The building was demolished in 1967 and is now a well manicured lawn adjacent to Dow Chemical Company parking lots. (Dow Chemical bought Rohm & Haas in 2009).
This theater has been demolished.
