This opened as an art-house cinema and performing arts center in 2003, also becoming the first “dessert cinema” on Cape Cod (meaning you sat at a table and had cake and coffee while you watched your movie.)
It closed at the end of 2004 (due to building being demolished) and is in the process of finding a new location.

What was the building’s previous use before it was (so briefly) a cinema?
Was this previously a movie theatre under a different name?
It was an art gallery/shop for many years.
I do not remember the name, nor when it closed.
I vaguely recall a few of their adverts with the artist Hibel.
Perhaps someone out there with a better memory than me will remember.
What the building was before it was an art gallery, I’m not sure.
I was aware of the gallery from about the early 80’s.
Main Street Hyannis had a movie theater further down the street that has since been converted to shops and a cafe. That would lead me to believe the building was never a movie theater.
This was never a movie theater. Main Street had two theaters = Hyannis (Summer only) in the west end. – Center Theater (Formerly Idlehour) in the east end (Open all year) This theater was destroyed by fire.
Any native would never consider this a theater. As for earlier occupants of this building, a First National grocery store in the 1940’s (possibly earlier). In the 1950’s I recall it being Charlbet’s stationers (later moved across Main Street to what is now Alberto’s Restaurant.)
