Operating side of one of the Star's projectors.
This picture was one of three small snapshots (all shown here) given to me in about 1960 by the proprietor of National Theatre Supplies in the basement of the Majestic Theatre in Melbourne, taken when he was a young assistant at the Star. The pickup arm of the sound-on disk apparatus and a very early (almost certainly locally built) sound-on-film head can be seen. The Bio(graph) Box was cramped and, like many of the era, had a bowed window space at the rear to allow a little more room to pass behind the projectors and for the operators to lean from to catch a breath of cool air.
