YORK Theatre Frontage, Rundle Street.
The foyer in this narrow multi-story building, led to a much wider auditorium behind the adjacent building. The projection suite was high up in the same building and resulted in a steep projection rake. Looking down from an observation port gave me a quite queasy sense of unease. The screen had to be tilted backwards to minimize key-stoning of the picture. It wasn’t annoying to the audience, however, and the York was highly regarded as a premier theatre prior to the opening of the nearby Regent. it was demolished to allow the widening of Gawler Place.
