April 4th 1967
April 4, 1967 – By the beginning of April in 1967, the Monterey International Pop Festival was starting to be put together. The people involved included The Mamas and The Papas' John Phillips, record producer Lou Adler and Beatles' PR man Derek Taylor and others.
There is some speculation that Taylor was included in the group in hopes that he could get The Beatles to play the festival. So, on April 4th, when Paul McCartney heard about it, pretty much knowing The Beatles were done touring, told Taylor he should try and get this new guitar phenomenon he’s seen in London.
They got him.
His name was Jimi Hendrix. And the rest is history.
