This is a rare October 4th, 1931 program (playbill) from the Post-Broadway engagement of the BILLY ROSE musical revue “CRAZY QUILT” at the Apollo Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. (The production opened May 19th, 1931 at New York’s 44th Street Theatre and ran for 79 performances before going on the road.) ….. The musical starred FANNIE BRICE, PHIL BAKER and TED HEALY (original member of “The Three Stooges”) and featured GOMEZ and WINONA, LEW BRICE, RODGER DAVIS, EILEEN ALLEN, TOM MONROE, VALE & STEWART, MARION BONNELL and MR. HEALY’S MEN (Dick Hakins, Paul Garner, Jack Wolf, Fred Swick and Allen Ricker) ….. Side Note: One of the show’s stars was TED HEALY (1896-1937), the mastermind behind the legendary comedy team “Ted Healy and the Stooges”, later known as “THE THREE STOOGES”. It was in the winter of 1922 that MOE HOWARD noticed an ad in the newspaper announcing that his childhood friend Ted and his new wife Betty were appearing in their vaudeville act at the Prospect Theater in Brooklyn. Moe had not seen Ted for ten years at this point. He went to the theater and he and Ted formed an act where Moe jumped up out of the audience and pulled Ted’s pants completely off. The act was a huge success and led to the future “Stooges” with MOE, his brother SHEMP HOWARD and LARRY FINE …..
