This postcard features a real photograph of Sylva’s Main Street and is believed to have been taken during the late 1930s. Signs visible include Lyric Theatre (now Big Rick’s), Park Lunch Room (now Tuckasegee Beauty Shop and part of Vance Hardware), Velt’s Cafe (now Lulu’s on Main), Sylva Pharmacy Rexall (now Hollifield Jewelers), Sylva Army Store (now vacant at Main and Spring streets). The Army Store was earlier G.M. Cole & Company, and that sign is also visible. The card is labeled “Cline” and numbered 1-O-39. – Courtesy of The North Carolina Collection, University of North Carolina Library at Chapel Hill. Originally published Nov. 19, 2009.
