RKO Orpheum Theatre - “The Absent-Minded Professor”
Pictured is the front showcase of the RKO Orpheum in 1961 at the debut of Walt Disney’s “The Absent-Minded Professor.” Pictured to the left or west of the display is the front window of Lewis Cleaners, where their neon advertised “IN BY 9, OUT BY 5.” They offered free pickup and delivery, and gave King Korn trading stamps as an added bonus in appreciation of your business. Owner Nathan Carp also had stores at 2114 E. 11th St., the Village Shopping Center, Duck Creek Plaza and the Fort Hotel in Rock Island.

Thanks David for all your great photos from Davenport. These theatres in the 50’s & 60’s new how to advertise with glass poster cases lite up with side lights to show off the one sheets and stills. You don’t see this any more in the multi junk. No more National Screen Service.
