One of the best photos of the second (and current) UPTOWN marquee in operation that we’ve ever seen, Nov. 22, 1965. Note the “N” of the vertical sign visible in the upper righthand corner of the print. Thanks to David Syfczak for sharing this find from Tony Kingman.

“This is a great find. Thank you to Tony Kingman. The Patterson vs Clay bout took place on the 22nd of November 1965. Clay won in 12 th round TKO. Floyd Patterson was attempting to regain the Heavyweight Crown for the third time. The closed circuit broadcast originated in LasVegas. The Marquee is operating full blast with horizontal chasers, vertical chevron chasers and underside with mirror against building giving appearance of lights entering building.”

Great photo! This is what the theatre looked like when I was a student living in Chicago. It was a real treat walking into this spectacular building… the movie was always secondary.

These of course were not LED, but very bright. What watt bulb was in use those days in B&K theaters? The LED’S in use at the Chicago Theater are not as good I believe.
