Marquee Theater in Springfield, MA Closes

SPRINGFIELD, MA — The former Regal Cinemas is now closed. What happened? Someone buy this awesome theater and reopen it for me. :) I loved catching the 12 noon show for $5 and being the only one there. But maybe that’s why they are closed.

There’s no link to a theater included, so now I am curious. Is this a mdoern Regal multiplex, but one that isn’t stadium seated? What year built? How many auditoriums? Did a nearby newer theater take away customers?
Is Regal the name of this theatre? Where exactly is it located?
I believe it’s a 15- or 16-plex, opened by Regal in the early 1990s but since acquired by Marquee. National Amusements, which already operated a theatre in West Springfield, came along not long after with another 16-plex in Springfield itself (the Showcase Eastfield Mall), and I assume that sapped the former Regal multi’s business, along with a 12-plex that Cinemark opened in nearby Hadley a few years ago.
In the last few years National Amusements has closed a 4-screen multiplex in West Springfield and a 10-screen multiplex in Springfield. Now Marquee closes this one. The Springfield area is losing theatres at an alarming rate.
This one has had three owners, Regal built in it 1999, in 2001 it was aquired by Megastar Theaters (which sold most of its theaters to AMC, this one remained a Megastar) then purchased by Marquee Theatres. From what I gather this was one of those random Regal locations built during the boom that failed as National Amusements rescreened with Eastfield Mall and the new West Springfield 1-15.
Also too Marquee Theaters has been closing others, including a 14-screener (formerly owned by UA, the McAuthur) in Texas.
Well its back – now as an Entertainment Cinemas.
