I noticed those lights on the ceiling too. Any ideas why they keep them on? I was siting in the last row watching Logan, and I could see those lights directly during the dark scenes(kind of distracting for me). I felt like those lights also cause the black to be not as black as it should be.

No, Angry Birds and Neighbors 2 are not Dolby Vison. You can go to the official Dolby Cinema Website(Not the AMC Prime Dolby Cinema website) to see the list of movies featuring both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. And according to this website, only the following movies are true Dolby: XMen, Alice, Ninja Turtle, Warcraft, Dory, Independence Day, Tarzan.

They are showing Money Monster and Neighbors 2 in Dolby, but I suppose they are fake Dolby? Never heard these two movies are going to be enhanced by the Dolby technology, and I only saw X-Men and Civil war were listed on the official Dolby cinema website.

Anyway, it’s good to have more movies in Dolby cinema, just the comfortable recliners are well worth the ticket price, And for those true Dolby movies, the bonus audio and image qualities just make it a great deal.

Dolby cinema is truly AWESOME and it’s kind of bad when certain blockbusters (London Has Fallen, Huntsman etc.) didn’t the Dolby release here just because of that policy. There may be no difference for regular screens between empire and e-walk, but Dolby cinema beats RPX badly.

It’s great that X-Men gets the Dolby since it’s not in IMAX. it seems few people know this format since seats gone slowly, and more people choose the IMAX auditorium next door over Dolby.

@Sadash, laser renovation will begin sometime around late summer according to the IMAX chief marketing officer who said in Twitter, may be delayed again, who knows.

interesting statistics to see!

I believe the maximum width a digital xenon projector can do is 85ft, projection bigger than that just makes the image blurry. So given LS’s 97.6ft screen, it’s reasonable for them to project at around 80ft.

I believe no differencees in terms of image quality and brightness since they are using the same projector, but the size of the image may be slightly bigger at LS( although the screen is 100ft wide, the image only takes around 80ft—similar to most other IMAX theaters) And LS also got a bigger auditorium with more people coming there, so the atmosphere may be better for some fans.

Wish there could be a 70mm version of Civil War, but sadly only digital and laser imax were made. No doubt the digital IMAX at LS13 will be the best available format in NYC since no civil war at Dolby cinema at empire 25( both formats are really good tho)

I also feel it’s weird since LS13 hosted the premiere and has the 70mm film projector. And they had the poster of A Beautiful Planet on for a long time. Maybe because this documentary is limited release, and the jungle book will have better box office? it’s kind of disappointing since seeing it in that gigantic 1.44:1 screen will be an unbelievable visual experience.

This weekend’s showtime has been released, and A Beautiful Planet won’t be shown here. I guess there will be no more 70mm IMAX since Laser IMAX will be coming late summer.

thanks everyone. It’s interesting to know there is actually some sort of “agreement” between empire and e walk. Now I see why London has fallen and Huntsman were not played at empire’s Dolby Cinema. Wish there could be more movies getting released at this Dolby Cinema because it’s fun to watch movie there, and it’s the only Dolby Cinema in NYC!

How come Captain America will not be played at this theater and its Dolby Cinema?

@macnut222 Thanks, that’s great to hear.I will check it out this weekend. guess 70mm IMAX > laser IMAX >= Dolby Cinema > Digital IMAX > all the other formats. But it’s disappointing that Dolby cinema at empire 25 won’t be showing Civil War.

It will still be lie IMAX for the Jungle Book next week. I watched it yesterday, many scenes look really dark in the digital IMAX 3D. I heard Dolby Cinema at empire 25 is a much better format than the digital IMAX since it’s laser projection. I’m just gonna watch TJB again next week at Dolby. If Dolby is indeed better than digital IMAX, I may choose Dolby over digital IMAX for the rest of the blockbusters until Lincoln Square finish its laser IMAX renovation.

@moviebuff82 I contacted the AMC customer service, and they told me Lincoln Square 13 will not show A Beautiful Planet on April 29th, we all misunderstood it, the fact is only the premiere of it will be hosted at its IMAX auditorium this Saturday evening( that’s why no jungle book is scheduled at that time). Also, laser upgrade won’t happen until late summer, so it’s pretty much impossible for Warcraft to have laser.

It’s sad that we are back to the lie digital IMAX again, I was expecting to enjoy another journey of 70mm IMAX in A Beautiful Planet, but guess it’s impossible. Kind of disappointed about it.

According to IMAX: http://www.imax.com/news/experience-beautiful-planet-near-you , A beautiful Planet will not be played at Lincoln Square 13. BvS will most likely be the last 70mm film in NYC. disappointed.

And ABP was shot using Cannon digital camera, so I doubt the picture quality in 70mm will be better than the digital one. Most likely, the only difference will be aspect ratio(1.44 vs 1.85) and the size of the images(huge screen at LS13)

I saw it last Friday. First 70mm experience.I was extremely excited when I walked into the auditorium and saw the big 70mm projector through the windows. Somehow I did not find a huge difference between the 70mm and digital IMAX in terms of picture resolution and brightness, maybe i can notice the resolution increased during the 1.431 scenes, but not obvious.

But yes, I LOVE the 70mm IMAX show very very much. The thing that amazed me most was the size of the images, no black bars left and right for the 2.35:1 scenes, cheers, and the full screen mode was really really cool(but sad, it’s short). Definitely will be going there again this weekend to see the 70mm! (and two more times before it’s gone.)

Yeah, can’t wait for A Beautiful Planet. BTW, anyone know if the ticket price will still be $22, only 45mins tho. I wish they could bundle Hubble 3D and ABP together, so that we could enjoy a 1hour 30min show.

Since the IMAX company had spent over millions of $ on it, I don’t think it will cause any big problems. I guess It may cause damages if we stay in the IMAX theater 10 hours everyday.

I feel the current sound system and the digital projected images are very superb already. Just can’t imagine how amazing the new laser system will be, lol.

BTW, which row you guys prefer at the IMAX auditorium, I’m kind of switching back and forth between row I and H, and still can’t tell which row is better.

I remember someone in this forum said the recliners will be installed in the IMAX auditorium during the laser renovation.

Giles- I will certainly prefer the 12-channel sound system over Dolby Atmos. I heard it’s much more powerful than the current digital IMAX sound system. Can’t wait to experience it.

That’s true. Only BvS(shot in IMAX camera, show in 70mm, and about 25mins of the scenes will fill the entire screen) and A beautiful Planet(in 70mm, but somehow I heard it will not fill the entire screen because it was shot in Canon Digital Camera, so probably 1.85:1?)will be the true IMAX experience at LS13 this year. But this kind of film is just so rare too see. All the others are just fake/digital IMAX. But they are still better than the screens downstairs. IMAX is just better in many ways(sound, brightness, resolution….)

A poster of A beautiful Planet was actually inside the IMAX auditorium hallway when I went there yesterday. This should indicate they are going to show it.

Thanks xbs2034. very excited to hear what you just said. Can’t wait to “board the international space station” lol. another thing I like about the laser system is the recliner chair. I believe the experience(space, BvS fighting scenes) would be much better with those chairs' “shaking devices”.
