Dark” “Kiss Me Stupid” “Tom Jones” etc. Those were the days.
I was employed at RKO58st from 1961- Nov.1963 For a very short time the company transferred me at RKO Kenmore in Brooklyn and RKO Palace theatre on Broadway & 47th St. But RKO 58 St was my
theatre. Some of the celebrities which attended were Marilyn Monroe, Ives Montand, Jane Mansfield, Three Stooges, and Jerry Lewis which he gave me his autograph. November 1963 I moved to
Hollywood where I started managing theatres, for National General Theatres. BUT EVERYTHING STARTED FROM 58 St & 3rd Ave.
While I was managing the Guild Theater I remember Mr Brando with his 10 year old Christian came to see the film “Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.” Mr Bob Hope came to see the same movie. Ms ZaZa Gabor came with her daughter to see “Who Is Afraid of Virginia Wolf.”
I also remember when we opened together the movies “Romeo & Juliet” also the movie “The Odd Couple” with Jack Lemon, so the marquee said “Romeo & Juliet” “The Odd Couple” … The Guild Theater had aprx 499 seats.

1963 till 1965. During that time, Eugene Klein purchased the “Fox West Coast Theatres” and named the
company “National General Theatres” (Mann Theatres came much later.)I still remember the day they planted
the little bushes in front of the theatre. We knew it
someday they’ll cover our marquee. Alas, they over lasted us. Sotos Kappas
In 1966-67 I was proud and fortunate to be employed as assistant mgr at the LIDO Theatre. During those days our company had just changed name from Fox West Theatres to National General. Movies such as “The Blowout” “A Man & A Woman” “Shop on Main Street” “Elvira Madigan” and so many more would open there and played for months. (We didn’t change movie every week those days.) Movie stars such as Kim Novak,
Paul Newman – Joanna Woodward, Bing & Mary Crosby, Mia Farrow, Frank Sinatra, Robert Wagner, Robert Goulet, Eddy Williams and so many more, visited the LIDO. After LIDO I was promoted to Manager at several other theatres until the Company changed to Manns Theatres. I will never forget the LIDO and the changes we did with the mgr, the late Richard Kates. We displayed expensive paintings at the lobby. We installed a water fountain upstairs next to the telephone booth,and dressed up the inside of the booth with French posters. It was “An Art Theatre.” I’m sad that we didn’t take any photos of the LIDO Theatre, during those days. A very special theatre!

Some of the theatres I worked, were the “Vogue theatre” “The Hollywood, Hollywood theatre” “Fine Arts” “Fox Wilshire theatre” “State Theatre” “Guild theatre” “the Lido theatre” and “the Village theatre."
Sadly, "Pay TV” (Gable Television) destroyed most of those gorgeous theatres…
