AMC just took over the theatre. The new name is AMC Dine In Prairie Fire 18 https://www.kansascity.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/cityscape/article230737134.html
The screen count needs to be updated to 28 as a result of the fork and screen renovation that gutted out Auditoriums 1 & 13 as part of the expanded lobby on that end. The official theatre name is AMC Studio 28 with IMAX and Dine-In Theatres despite the sign out front still has the old name of Studio 30 on it.
This theater was used as a set and a scene from Daddy’s Home 2 per http://www.eagletribune.com/news/haverhill/lawrence-movie-theater-becomes-a-major-movie-set/article_7cac0714-6dc2-5fd5-b226-ce47d6c89e4a.html
This theatre is set to close sometime this fall if not sooner. The Mall is shutting down in the fall so all the tenants are having to relocate out.
I loved this theatre when is was new as it was one of the few stadium seating theatres in the area at the time and I enjoyed the decorative lights and lasers it had in it’s lobby. I was not a real fan of the black lights in the auditorium though during the movie.
I’ve seen a drawing of what this theatre is gonna look like when it reopens. It is located at View link and it appears that the original Main Street Marquee will be reproduced for the new (old) theatre.
I also wanted to make a note that one or two of the Auditoriums are being used for a Church now on Sunday Mornings, this is what the stage in front of screen 7 is used for on that morning, the rest of the week screen 7 is the main attraction and usually has the biggest movie on it. They also are using another Auditoriums for Children’s Ministry (ether screen 6 or 8 in which they have a mini stage in front of their screens). So now this theatre is multi function.
I believe the total capacity of this DI is 1400 as listed:
Screen 1 800 cars
Screen 2 600 cars
This is one of 5 Kansas City Area DIs that feature the Miniature St. Louis Style Arch and is also 1 of 4 DI’s that featured the same style of Blue Marquee that said Twin or State on it.
The other theatres that featured the St. Louis Arch replica was:
North Twin DI in Riverside, MO
South Twin DI in Olathe, KS
State Twin DI in Kansas City, KS
I-70 DI in Kansas City, MO
That doesn’t sound right as the Studio 30 in Houston that looks excatly like this one has 6032 seats and the other Mesquite Studio 30 in Mesquite, TX has 6008 seats. Now through this I am estimating that Studio 30’s capactiy would be somewhere around 5800 seats since they have taken seats out of the IMAX screen and darken screen 1.
This is my favorite AMC theatre. It issn’t overcrowded like the Studio 30 or Town Center 20 and it has a nice space theme atmosphere. Also worth mentioning is the echo chamber in the middle of the lobby can be fun at times.
There’s 3 other AMC Odyssey 24s just like this in the AMC Chain and these are:
AMC Oak View Odyssey 24 in Omaha, NE (looks excatly like Barrywoods 24 from the photos I saw of it) pictures are at: View link and http://www.cinematour.com/tour.php?db=us&id=3936
I didn’t realize that this building was a theatre until after it closed and I noticed that the small sign read Wehrenberg Alton Cine. The building just didn’t look like a Movie Theatre to me.
When ever I am in the St. Louis area visiting my sister, this drive-in is one of my main stops on my visit. It is a fun little Drive-In with fairly new movies (the movies I have seen there are about 4 weeks old but not dollar house age yet). The cheap ticket price to get in makes this one a big draw and you would want to get there early to get the best spot and to get your concessions before the movie begins. At the beginning of the Movie they show a 10-Minute Intermission Reel with the Food Circus (this is the same intermission trailer they show at the Boulevard Drive-In in Kansas City). In closing you wouldn’t want to miss this Drive-In if your in the St. Louis or Springfield, IL area.
This Cinema was never an AMC Theatre. It was once part of Globe Cinemas but have became independant since then. They have 5 screens not 3 and their website is at http://www.hangar1.com/ .

And they reopened the IMAX screen. They must of had a problem that took them about a month to fix. Also Screen 2 is the one screen that is dark.

It appears that they have done away with the IMAX screen and most likely making this back into a regular 35 MM screen or Digital.

The Empire is currently under renovation and AMC will be reopening it soon as a multiplex. This was according to yesterdays KC Star.

The Summit 4 was an AMC Theatre.

This theater opened in 1990 according to http://movie-theatre.org/usa/mo/kansascity/kc.htm . Also it was operated by Dickinson until 2003 when Globe bought this theater.
Even though it has Palace on the Plaza 14 in its name, it actually has 15 screens, because the VIP room issn’t counted in the 14.
