News About This Theater
- Aug 30, 2006 — Small theater chain owners find niches
When the Legends 14 opened on November 11, 2005 it was the first new movie theatre to open in Wyandotte County, KS in over 20 years and was the largest megaplex for the Phoenix Theatres chain.
The 3,050 seat Legends 14 features large screens in all 14 theatres with the biggest being in theatre 7 with 635 (including the VIP balcony’s 86 seats) high back rocking chair seats with retractable armrests, a massive 40 by 87 foot screen, 42 digital speakers, and a small stage in the front. The other 13 theatres are still fairly good in size with screens between 20-30 feet tall, yes even the smallest screen in Theatre 10 is still 20 feet tall. The other 13 screens also feature the same High back rocking chair seats with retractable armrests as Theatre 7 has.
Other amenities to this theatre include seat service for the 86 seat VIP balcony for Theatre 7, a 4 story lobby, a concession stand, an arcade room, family restrooms, 2 party rooms, and a bar area on the top level.
The theatre is in an L shape layout and has decorations of past Hollywood Classics such as the “Wizard of Oz2. The Theatre Number signs are in the Film Countdown style and appear backwards when going back to the main lobby. The theatre capacities are:
1: 158 seats
2 and 9: 152 seats
3,4, and 10: 126 seats
5, 11, and 12: 184 seats
6 and 8: 298 seats
7: 549 seats on the lower level and 86 in the VIP balcony for a total of 635 seats
13: 219 seats
14: 208 seats.
One more fun fact for this theatre was on Saturday, October 29, 2005, a few weeks before they opened up. The theatre gave away 1,4000 free tickets at the Community America Ballpark which is located just across the street from the movie theatre. It was taken over by AMC on December 12, 2015.

I also wanted to make a note that one or two of the Auditoriums are being used for a Church now on Sunday Mornings, this is what the stage in front of screen 7 is used for on that morning, the rest of the week screen 7 is the main attraction and usually has the biggest movie on it. They also are using another Auditoriums for Children’s Ministry (ether screen 6 or 8 in which they have a mini stage in front of their screens). So now this theatre is multi function.

Additional info on the recent change in ownership according to an article by Joyce Smith in the December 8 Kansas City Star:
The owners of Legends Outlets Kansas City have purchased the centers 14-screen theater and will convert it to an AMC.
The deal closed Friday. The theaters reopened as AMC Legends 14 on Saturday December 12, 2015, and will remain open through a renovation scheduled for 2016.
Legends 14 Theater was owned by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and has been managed by Phoenix Big Cinemas LLC since it opened in 2005.
In a statement, Doug Bach county administrator said: “The sale of the theater paves the way for private sector re-investment in the 10-year-old facility, and insures that both residents and tourists will be able to enjoy this asset for years to come.
The Legends Center is near the Kansas Speedway, a 72,000 seat capacity motorsports facility for NASCAR races and other auto-related events.
