Eugene Mollo designed three cinema interiors in Belfast, the Strand was the first for Architect John McBride Neill and dare I say the best interior of the three!!! Opening 7th December 1935. The fitted carpet throughout the Strand was designed by Mollo, who designed many outstanding patterns all were named, this was called ‘Lava’ and you can see the design on the inner side on the left of circle front row. Lava was earlier used at the huge Majestic cinema Rochester, which opened on Tuesday 15th December 1935. Mollo designed many exciting carpet designs many can be viewed on the Cinema Treasures website especially in his Cafe Restaurant. Note the illuminated surround of the proscenium.
