Showing front of the Rialto cinema 27th November 1939. A cold wet miserable night and three months after WW2 had been declared. The film showing ‘Cat and the Canary’ starring Bob Hope, hope was a word used a great deal then. However, for the moment ABC and their Rialto still brightly lit up until the order arrives, “Switch those lights off”.
