Photograph taken for the opening of the Ritz Leyton 85 years ago today, 4th July 1938. This Art Deco auditorium was designed by ABC Head Architect William Glen, the house curtains were their top of the range, silk applique with butterflies, flowers and leaves covering the entire area of the fabric. The splay walls are fitted with a pair of gilt ornate grilles, these were originally to conceal the organ chambers, however, never used. Set between a tall alcove features a golden nude figure standing upon a two tier plinth, above the pendant ornate light fitting illuminated the entire alcove, again designed by Charles Theobalds and manufactured by F.H. Pride of Clapham London.
