I went to all these ctr city theatres in the 50’s. Back then the c c theatres were the best places to see a movie. In the 60’s I worked for Budco Theaters out of Doylestown. Manager and dist. manager. Budco was the D-I king.
In my opinion buying the Goldman chain hurt Budco. It seemed to be down hill from there.
This was one of several Budco Theater from Doylestown, Pa. I was a district manager and this was one of mine. Nice little D-I. If you drive around behind the shopping ctr in the field you will still the steel post for the screen tower.
The theatre was built to handle the over flow of its sister theatre the Flag ship “AIRPORT D-I” another Budco D-I. On one night during the opening week we had trouble keeping the picture in focus on the right side of the screen. Turned out the steel support on the right side was pulling out of the ground. We had to bring in a krane to support the tower until it could be secured. I think it held around 500 cars.
Well its Oct.27.2014
I drove by the theatre yesterday coming from work.
On the outside it’s still the same as last mo. and the mo. before . I’m not tall enough to check out the roof.
The theatre is always locked up so you can not see inside. The WEB site shows old pictures. What we need is some pictures of the work being done. UPDATED PHOTOS.
I drive pass this theatre several time a week. Let me in and I will take some photos.
