•
Inspectors enter the Fox on December 13th. Adam Sandler’s “Jack and Jill” is playing – enough reason to close the theater in and of itself. But inspectors corroborate patrons' stories as some ceiling tiles have come crashing down in one auditorium. Further, the mall’s lack of heating for months has lowered the temperatures in the auditoriums to just 38 degrees F; the emergency lighting system is nonfunctional; black mold is visible; parts of the roof are labeled as “missing” and with big concern about the fire sprinkler system freezing overnight, the theatre and the entire Woodville Mall is condemned. (They likely were dissatisfied with the quality of the sound and image presentation, as well.)

There were no further shows on December 14th or beyond as “Happy Feet 2,” “Twilight: Breaking Dawn,” “Arthur Christmas” and “Jack & Jill” close out the Fox. All that said, I miss the Fox Theatres. You can blame Adam Sandler.

 •
A few months ago the money strapped Regal folks got rid of all the ticket booth help for the nice boxoffice for the Regal 9 on Pacific Ave in downtown Santa Cruz. You buy your admission ticket from the popcorn stand in the lobby. No class anymore for UA/Regal, It’s all about saving money.
