Hello ex projectionists.
4th operators jobs make the tea, paint the floors, clean the boilers out, from time to time scrub the projection box floor and since the box floor at eccles was a light tan it took some scrubbing with a deck scrubber and then three layers of wax put on by hand what a pain. also 4ths
job was to run the show and all the reels while the 2nd proj had a kip on the sofa in the staff room there. not enough energy to say more. ah well happy days.

hi Derick. yes started at the Apollo as trainee from july 1966 until april 1967 when I transferd to eccles as 4th operator. when eccles closed march? 1974 I went to stockport from the until about November 1979. when I first went to stockport the manager was Mike ronan think the spelling is right & the chief Ken toombs not to sure I spelt it right. I noticed Derick on the ritz stockport site you were there as projectionist. nice to here from you Ralph did you ever know our friend Vic mancini used to come in at night and look for you? and derick how is the Curzon Urmston faring. as always nice to see everyone about regards to all. Hello colin I knew a few by your name but the one I remember most was a colin Wilkinson who used to do abit at the Ellesmere swinton not to sure if spelt that right.I worked the Apollo. ritz stockport. odeon sale. metro. ashton. and a few other places so I will know a few old operators out there. regards ray
hello triac505 I worked unit4 Hulme for a while as relief while I was at eccles went over some years later and saw ralph there. he took me up to the old projection box which I did not realise was still there. a very small box with two very large BTHs in. you had to put you back against the wall to get round the back of them. must of been hell in the summer. going back to eccles went some years ago to an old show of mine the Apollo ardwick green to see the stage manager peter gates formally of the davenport stockport we went up to the projection box the FP20s had gone in their place two old Ross GC3s he said at least one was from eccles anybody know if they are still there? well by for now. regards ray
Me again yes david adams the pipe smoker from Victoria park eccles. had a 1930s wind up gramophone used to tale it up onto the projection box roof and blast George Formby all over eccles. regarding ricardo manuel mancini he was always the same, but we went to the rialto broughton. Salford one day to unload a removal van full of cinema seats into the snooker hall under the cinema he took his coat off rolled his sleeves up and got work. he was a pain some nights when our chief nipped across the road for a pint at the town hall pub mr mancini would turn up about 9.30pm asking for him and the only excuse you could give that our beloved chief was in the boiler house eventually he would wander away without seeing him. ah the good old days regards all ray.
came across this site I seem to know the old names, worked at this place april 1967/74 our friend mr moss was assistant manager I remember mr stirzaker the day you left I the 60s. mr kevin Utley & the manager who followed him Derek warner. I was projectionist under chief ralph barrett until closing march 74. I think somebody asked about the man putting his big feet through the ceiling I thing his name was david adams but not to sure. well nice to see the photographs & the old names . regards to all who was there when I was there ray Millington.
