The Friends of the Penn will have its next meeting, “Envision the Penn”-Town Hall, on April 10th at 7pm in the Masonic Temple next to the Penn in downtown Plymouth. Please come to share your thoughts and hear the results of our area survey. In the meantime continue checking the website: http://www.friendsofthepenn.org for updates.

I’m a Plymouth native, actually.

After extensive research theater management I understand your reservations about running first run movies there. At present we’re surveying Plymouth City and Township to figure out what people will come and see. Thus far it looks like we’ll be showing more 2nd run films, classics and the occasional independent movie, as well offering children’s live entertainment, comedy nights, etc.

Hi again!

The first meeting of the “Friends of the Penn” went spectacularly well! 30+ in attendance, and several from the Downtown Development Authority and Zoning Board of Appeals. We formed two committees: one to increase community awareness, another to help raise funds. Once we get non-profit status I’ll post a message letting you know how to help. Next meeting is on Sunday 3/13 at 7pm, tentatively in the basement of the Plymouth Historical Museum. I’ll confirm as soon as I know for sure. Thank you for your interest, and spread the word! Hey Neo—interested in helping us with a website?

At the Penn we’re hoping to have first run and independent movies on the weekends, and classics during the week. Nothing is officially a ‘go’, however, until we can convince city council that it’s a worthwhile investment ;)

I’ll keep you all posted. Wish us luck!

I am currently co-ordinating with the Michigan Historic Preservation Network to assemble an advocacy group to save the Penn from possible demolition. Please contact me at .edu, or 734-453-1435 if you are interested in joining the effort. Thank you! Jennifer Philpot-Munson
