Does anyone know where it might be possible to get hold of any old photos of this theatre, especially from the 1940s when it was known as The Chief? Also, if anyone has any contacts who worked at the theatre or even went there as audience members I woudl be very interested in getting in contact with them.

Lost, Bob, – Many thanks for this. This is fantastic, very helpful. My research is on programming of movies in the cinemas rather than the cinemas themselves so I am not sure if it is of that much interest to users of this site. I had a great time last summer doing some of the research in Kenosha, including a tour around the darkest reaches of the old Gateway Theater (now the Rhode Opera House). I will be presenting papers based on the research at the Popular Culture Association conference in Frisco and the British Association of American Studies conference this March and hopefully at the European Communications Rsearch and Education Association conference in Barcelona in November and I am currently working with a colleague on a bid for a major grant to extend my research to include the entire Milwaukee cicuit (and a comparative study of the Phildelphia circuit). If anyone is interested I have a website which is not updated as oten as it could be at www.cinemahistroy.org

Just to answer your question, I am an academic film historian at a London University and my interest in this book ties in with a research project I am trying to get off the ground.

I am doing some research at the WB archive in California at the moment. Does anyone know if this theatre was called the Palace during the 1940s?
