Great renovation job on what I used see on a daily basis when I lived on Monroe street NW in the mid to late 90s. It was a neglected relic. I remember seeing stray dogs and rats come out of it.
During the late 70s, triple features of black exploitation films and/or horror films was what The Lincoln Theater was known for featuring. I know ‘cause I was there many times as a kid.
This theater was converted into a liquor store! My mother took me and my siblings to the movie house during the late 60s and early 70s when it was called “Congress Heights” theater. “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” and Disney’s “Bedknobs & Broomsticks” are two films I recall seeing there.
As a youngster, I saw “Oliver” and “The Sound of Music” at the bygone MacArthur Theater on MacArthur Blvd in NW, Washington, DC. My classmates (Francis Scott Key Elementary) and I really enjoyed the field trips as a break from our studies. This was around 1974. The theater had just one large screen and a huge concession area. Very classic semi- art deco facade. It was magical to me. I recall that a water reservoir was just down the street from the theater that was situated in the Palisades part of Northwest DC. Being a bused black school boy from SE, DC, the area was just like being in another world. Sad to know, the theater is now a CVS! Aren’t there enough of them everywhere throughout the city?

“EARTHQUAKE” WITH SURROUND SOUND and “Grease”. Glad to see something remains intact in DC. Hence, a CVS is just a block away!
