As I can recall, after the theater was sold and demolished, a Mobil gas station was built there. I can remember they had a new style of gas pumps. They were round, like a cylinder.
In 1969 the rock band I was in called, “Sin” played a battle of the bands there. There was 6 bands in the competition and the master of ceremonies was WCFL’s Jerry Kay, I am proud to say that Sin took first place. The interior of the theater was beautiful with many crystal chandeliers.
To Brian Krefft,There was a small movie theater on Armitage on the south side of the street a half a block west of Cicero. I’m not sure but I think the name was The Avondale. Do you have any information on this location or theater by that name?
In the late 1960’s this Bel Park theater was a banquet hall and bingo parlor. It was called The Golden Tiera.
Anyone know the special occasion that called the theater to have the bunting on display?
