I walked by the theatre when I was in LA last month and was sad to see it still shut down some 10yrs later. The best film I saw here was “Scarface” in 1983.
New Bev Cinema rocks! It’s still cheap at $7 (or less, see their site) and you get a double feature like “Goodfellas & Casino” or my favorite “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” and “Mommy Dearest” on New Years Day 1998. Oh, and yes, El Coyote is a MUST. Excellent food and great margaritas :)
Hehe, I saw Rocky Horror in June 1982 for my b-day! Imagine a bunch of pre-teens standing on Sunset at midnight, throwing dry rice at passing by cars, lol.
Wow, I’ve seen SO many movies here, especially in the main bottom theatre (before they cut it in half which totally blew). The sound in the main theatre was insane, as good if not better than the National, Village, or Chinese.
Went here several times to see movies in the early 90’s such as “Sneakers” and “Lawnmower Man” but the place was a tad creepy and inaccessable to general public, which may’ve attributed to its demise.
Saw many double features around 1980 here for a mere .75 cents (lol, I’m assuming this was the childs price). I had no idea there was a bowling alley next door, but can vaguely recall a drive-in theatre on the other end of the block (around 3rd & Gardner).
I grew up around the corner from this theatre and vaguely recall seeing “The Goodbye Girl” back in the late 70’s. Also in the early 80’s saw the band Spandau Ballet and in 1996 saw Penn & Teller live.
I grew up in Carthay Circle on Moore Drive. My father bought several of the bricks from the wreckage of the theatre (at a dime each) and used them to redo our courtyard. I wasn’t around when the theatre existed.

Only time I’d been here was around 1987 for a taping of an HBO special featuring the talents of Rich Hall (yup, the Sniglet guy, hehe).
