Have to agree 100% with dctrig. It’s pretty disgusting how the Dome is treated like a hillbilly multiplex nowadays. Arclight pretends to be this ultimate movie going experience, but it has quickly deteriorated to just another mainstream theater chain. It’s time to either step it up a notch to justify them high ticket prices or just refocus on indies and classics. When the main Arclight Hollywood location has the exact same movie lineup as an AMC theater in Burbank then there really is no point anymore in putting on all the pageantry.

They did do some work to restore the front and the lobby looked really clean when I walked by the other day. Unfortunately since they have had like 4th or 5th run movies since they re-opened I haven’t been inside to actually see the theaters. I know this is North Hollywood and not Pasadena but damn I was hoping they would sneak in the occasional indie every few weeks or at least get the movies really quick after they opened the way they did back around 2004 before they closed it down. They just reopened so I am going to be patient but so far it’s just like a one dollar theater from the Midwest where they show stuff the same week that it hits dvd.

Beware of the 7 row theaters in the middle of the multiplex, it’s not really worth $12 to see a movie in one of those, unless you like sitting 6 feet away from the screen.

The upstairs theaters are much better now after upgrading to digital 3D projectors. There used to be allot of sound problems in those upstairs houses 2-3 years ago but now that seems to be fixed. Good to see Cinemark put some money in this small but still very much alive neighborhood theater. The downstairs houses are still tiny and it’s pretty amazing that they book some movies on such small screens in their first week of release. I guess management is doing the best they can with this old school theater. Way too crowded on the weekends, but still a nice place to catch a weekday matinee. Also lately I have seen an army of young kids working there so cleanliness and maintenece must be a priority now.

I’m looking forward to the re-opening of this theater. Regency has done a good job with the Pasadena discount house and I hope this one gets relaunched with that same kind of enthusiasm. The Century 8 down the street is too crowded on the weekends, hopefully this discount house will be a nice alternative. Most movies don’t even get a 3rd weekend these days, it will be interesting to see how quick movies make it to this theater.

This theater can be seen in the 1988 remake of The Blob.

This theater has become a joke value wise. They currently charge $12 to watch mostly second run movies in 1980’s style theaters. The booking style is awful as well, they only book indies September through April and then use it during the summer as a run off theater for the nearby “crown jewel” AMC 16. If Burbank residents didn’t have such a voracious appetite for big summer movies, and if the nearby AMC 16 and AMC 6 didn’t have such small theaters that sellout all the time this relic would have bitten the dust a long time ago.
