A powerful windstorm struck this building in May. The roof was badly damaged and the sign was blown away. The roof was repaired, but apparently the sign is gone for good.
A few years ago the interior was gutted in preparation for turning the place into a bar or night club, but problems with the city concerning a building permit put an end to the construction.
Today, in 2012, the building is empty and has a “for lease” sign on it.

On August 9, 2012, the Gulf Theater and a next-door dollar store were gutted by fire. Only the front and west walls of the theater were left standing.
The theater had been occupied by Coastal Gymnastics Academy for the past 15 years.
