It’d have been better if they’d have kept the AURORA lettering and just named it Pussycat on the marquee, rather than destoying the original history.. what a great design!

This is the best photo yet of the inside, it had clown murals painted on the inside which lended to the family or children audience atmosphere, this is how it stii was in 1975 when they were playing Spanish movies and I went there with my high school class to watch Cantinflas in Por Mis Pistolas, then when the theater switched to adult films they painted over the old murals to a solid brown, and ruined the history..

The Theater was originally called Flack’s 5th Avenue theater, because that section of Colima Road was once called 5th Avenue once you left Hacienda Heights (or City of Industry) and entered into Rowland Heights. It is now Colima Road all the way through Rowland Heights and beyond. Flack’s 5th Avenue theater had a real cool marquee and I believe it was still Flack’s at the time they began showing Deep Throat, eventually the marquee was removed and the theater was later titled “Rowland Heights Theater” and it looked real seedy, and the name looked like it was hand painted on the outside, and it was all-adult films by this time..

even when it showed adult films it still retained it’s marquee and architectural beauty as a single auditorium theater, with the warrior design and the flashing colors in front.. turning it into a six-plex totally ruined it as well as the historical beauty of the entire block..

very quaint theater, still has the old classic marquee, it went from general audience films in the 60s, to Spanish speaking movies in the 70’s to adult films in the late70s-early 80s.. always hoped and dreamed someone would buy it and show cool old classic b&w films there for car shows and cruise nites..
