The Scenic/New Scenic theatre operated in Correctionville from 1913 until 1927. It was located in the former New Hardware store, between the Weeks Pharmacy (then operated by C.C. Yockey) and the Columbia Opera House. It was “finished up in the city style with slant floor, operators and musician’s balcony.” The first showing of “The Sheriff’s Reward” on July 2, 1913, “was a big hit.” The theatre was seriously damaged by a fire on Feb 18, 1927, and the owner “decided not to reopen it.” The Scenic theatre building came down years later with the collapse of the Opera House. The American and Radio (later known as New Radio and The Ritz) continued to operate and The Ritz building is still standing as of 2024.
