TRIBUTE - (The photo) This is a ceramic logo that has found fame through association. The logo was set in the floor of The Olympic Milk Bar located next to The Olympia De-Luxe Theatre. Both business' shared the name Olympia. The theatre & Milk Bar did very well in the 1950s and early 1960s, having a strong working relationship with each other. This continued when the theatre was converted into a roller-skating rink, getting good youth patronage, until a dispute erupted between the Fotiou’s and the rink’s manager with difficult times ensuing.
Never-the-less it seems fitting to retain the existence of the logo for history and heritage sake.
Nicholas Fotiou a Greek immigrant and owner of the Olympia Milk Bar from 1959 until its closure in 2017, has passed away, leaving behind a huge legacy that is tied with the shop he worked in for nearly six decades.
He was laid to rest at Rookwood Cemetery October 6, 2023, with his legacy forged and forever linked to his devotion and commitment to the Olympia Milk Bar.
