Sidney Myer Music Bowl Linlithgow Avenue, Melbourne, VIC
Photo - State Library of Victoria
The Sydney Myer Music Bowl (in Kings Domain Gardens) opened on 12th February 1959. Used as a live & concert venue. Occasionally used as an outdoor cinema (sitting on the grass accommodates 7,000 to 10,000).
The Australian music group The Seekers played a concert in 1967 to an audience that was estimated to be over 200,000 people (biggest concert ever in Australia?).
Also has on Christmas Eve the Carols by candlelight concert, originally started in Alexandra Gardens in 1938, moving to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in 1959 - Notes by David coppock.
