In the busy shopping heart of Adelaide was the Savoy News-Luxe Theatre, where you could drop in for an hour or so and catch up with the latest world and local news, plus a cartoon and a featurette.
The Savoy Theatre was opened on 18th December 1936. It became the Savoy News-Luxe Theatre on September 26, 1941, and during the remaining World War II years was a popular place for catching up with the latest from the war front. The lobby entrance was very small and the ticket box was set to the right. With a change of program every Friday, admission was just 1/- (10c).
