Hoyts Richmond Cinema 313 Bridge Road, Melbourne, VIC
The Richmond Cinema was opened in 1920
Located in the east inner city Melbourne district of Richmond. The Richmond Cinema was opened in 1920. It had a low, single storey façade, while the auditorium had seating provided in stalls and circle levels. The auditorium ceiling was in lattice-work and the steel support rods were exposed. It was later taken over by Hoyts Theatres, retaining the ‘Cinema’ name rather than being re-named ‘Theatre’. It was closed in 1959.
The façade survives slightly modified, while the auditorium is still there, with the building in use as a Barbeque store - Notes by Ken Roe
