The Regent Gardiner was a beautiful theatre, & sadly one of the first to close. Hoyts had built a massive suburban circuit that would crumple, almost over night with the advent of TV. In the good days Saturday nights were always full, while most midweek nights were well attended. Facts : The Regent Gardiner was opened by Associated Theatres P/L on 23rd September 1925. On September 29,1926, Hoyts, Electric Theatres P/L, and Associated Theatres P/L, merged to become Hoyts Theatres Limited. The Regent Gardiner changed to the Hoyts banner almost immediately.
