The building known as the Victory Theater and the Opera House operated as a Shop Rite supermarket for many years. On July 4, 1977, the brick building burned to the ground. The fire department was 1 block away. A new shop Rite was built on the site.
The DeWitt named after property owner DeWitt Van Buskirk. I do recall the theater showing family oriented movies, however, before it’s closing, they ran horror flicks complete with barf bag for the patron. Too bad that the theater was demolished, but money talks.
The Lyceum showed family featured movies until it’s closing in the early 1980’s. The theater was closed, there was talk of saving it, but ultimately, it was demolished in favor of a Quick Check convenience store.
The marquee of the theater was demolished in 1970, however, the rest of the building still stands. The building has been repurposed in the 1970’s as apartments on the upper floors and 2 storefronts on the ground level.
