The shortlived Theatre de Luxe cinema (1912-17) was in the building shown here, May 2016, as Triplesix Studios.

It was actually opened pre-1920. It is shown on the OS revision of 1915 as Picture Theatre, and is included in Slater’s 1917 Directory as ‘Premier Picture Hall (Premier Pictures Ltd)’.

The building next door was a Temperance Billiard Hall, opened c.1906 and one of about 17 designed by Norman Evans.

From the photograph it looks very similar to the Temperance Billiard Halls at Chorlton and Gorton, built c.1907 (the Chorlton one is now a Wetherspoons pub). Did it start out as a snooker hall?

The variations in seating accommodation may be because much (most?) of the seating, at least in the 1930s, was on benches, not individual seats. It becomes a matter of judgement how many you can squash onto a bench!
