Located in the east Manchester district of Higher Openshaw. The Openshaw Picture Hall was opened with 830 seats. Around 1929 it was equipped with a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system.
In the mid-1930’s it was renamed Rex Picture Hall and was taken over by the H.D. Moorhouse Circuit.
The Rex Picture Hall was closed in the late-1950’s and was demolished.

From the photograph it looks very similar to the Temperance Billiard Halls at Chorlton and Gorton, built c.1907 (the Chorlton one is now a Wetherspoons pub). Did it start out as a snooker hall?
That’s very likely Durhamdown. I’ve never seen a cinema with so many roof lights!
