The Saenger Theatre was on Third Street between the Paramount Theatre and the S.H. Kress Store. The smaller inset photo shows the Paramount. In 1939, Schwartzberg’s Department Store - which had opened in Alexandria in 1914 - moved for the second time into the S.H. Kress Store and in 1950 bought the adjoining Saenger converting it to retail
