This month we are having auditorium #1 converted to Digital over at the Royale. They are having to use a Barco projector (instead of the typical Sony) because the screen is so wide. 1.85 Looks good in 1 & 14 here.
Majestic, Kingstowne (in Alexandria), Fox 16 in Ashburn, and the Royale are all originally Consolidated Theatres. No up and down masking at any of the locations (as far as I know).
As far as a previous post in this section: Auditoriums 1 & 14 at the Royale 14 in Hyattsville have the largest screens in PG County. In scope – over 60 wide (measured it myself). And yes- there is side masking!
There is an ironic story behind this theatre location for me. I was the opening General Manager of the Neonopolis 14 Theatre that is/was located less than a block from where the Old Fremont Theatre stood. My grandmother’s first cousin is/was Jane Russell (my grandmother passed away last year). I have a print at home of “The Las Vegas Story” in storage. Turns out Ms. Russell was at that 1952 premiere.
When I learned all the above info, I just thought it was a great example of how small the world actually is and how everything is somehow related.
I was the opening GM of the Crown Neonopolis 14. It was a very nice theatre for it’s location. The city’s parking debacle is what killed this location. Everybody knows that YOU DO NOT PAY TO PARK IN VEGAS. Especially if you live there.
I was GM at this location in 1999 (When Star Wars Phantom Menace opened). It was a standard Regal location. I believe it is the only location that a wet ceiling tile fell on Mike Campbell’s head while he was watching a film there.
I worked very breifly at this location. I trained there in 1996 to be a GM for Regal Cinemas. I liked this location and could not believe that it was originally a single screen location and was eventually turned into an 8 screen.
This was the first theatre I was a General manager at. I worked for Cobb Theatres at the time and we ran 4 endless loop platter systems. Let’s just say I learned more lessons at this little four plex than any theatre I have worked at to this day. While the theatre was nothing spectacular, I do have fond memories of running it.
I managed this location for Regal Cinemas in 1996. I have to say that even though the rest of the entire Mall was closed – the theatre did very well that year. The two middle auditoriums were nice and we sold them out very often in 1996.
I managed this theatre very briefly in 2005. Nothing special about it. I did not like the auditoriums that were retro-fitted and made stadium from slope.
I ran this location in late 1997 early 1998 for Regal Cinemas. The theatre was in horrible shape. I remember there being sub-pumps in some of the auditoriums to drain the water when it rained.
I managed this location for Regal Cinemas in 1997. It was one the most well built 6 screen locations I ever managed. Auditorium 3 had stadium seating and was the screening room for the Miami Herald’s critic during the time I was there (a majority of the films Rene watched in this theatre anyway). It sure was a nice theatre (once). When I ran it, it had a lot of problems that the Mall was having. I also opened “Titanic” at this location. When I was there all the auditoriums were THX certifed and sounded great.
Most uncomfortable seats in the history of movie theatres. I saw “Step Brothers” here.

I ran this location as a dollar cinema for Regal Cinemas sometime in 1998. We had woooden platters at this location!
