It was a Friday night in 1973 at the Drake. Double feature: “Let The Good Times Roll” and “Bless the Beasts and the Children”. First film was very loud, second was very disturbing to a 9 year old and my 7 year old sister (shots of animals getting slaughtered, etc). I believe it was the only time in my live at that theatre. Pretty much forgot about the place till I saw “Private Parts” in 1997.

Ed:July 4, 1986 movie clock was from NY Daily News, not NY Post. Grew up a couple of blocks from this theatre, so was there many times, along with the Jackson and Boulevard. Can’t remember a lot of movies seen there however, only 2 come to mind: Posse with Kirk Douglas comes to mind, also Burt Reynolds in “The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing”.

As a 7 yr old, waited in the bitter, bitter cold to see the Christmas stage show and “Bedknobs & Broomsticks”.Took me 30 years to see the Holiday Show again after that.
When I was 9, my father bought tickets for the family in advance for what he thought was “Mary Poppins”. When we arrived, we realized “40 Carats” was now playing, though we stayed to watch the decidedly more adult film anyways…1987 was probably the first concert I remember seeing there, it was WCBS-FM’s 15th anniversary, with Dion, Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, etc…Saw Sinatra (the live one I mean!) three times; 1990 twice, then 1992 with Shirley MacLaine opening.

Summer of ‘73 saw “Paper Moon” there, this was a big deal as we lived in Queens and it was the first time myself (9 years old) and my sister (7 yrs) had been to the city at night and took the elevated subway line at night.

I think it was November 1979, attended a Woody Allen film festival three week-ends in a row, seeing a total of 9 pictures. I remember one of those days, I think it was a Sunday, we just waited outside for about an hour because the manager was late in showing up with the key to open the place. Pretty ridiculous.

Grew up in the neighborhood. Was there many times, before and after it became a triplex. For some reason remember seeing, “The Incredible Shrinking Woman” there with Lily Tomlin over everything else. My fondest memory of it was pre-triplex was when I went to a Saturday afternoon event in the mid-70’s, “Go Ape for a Day”, all 5 films starting with of course “Planet of the….”

Lived a couple of blocks away as a kid, and went to this theatre many times in the 70’s. In the early 70’s, a lot of double features, for some reason, I remember “Prime Cut” and “Boxcar Bertha”. Remember they were pretty lax about letting underage kids in to see R rated flicks. OK, I remember seeing “The Deep”, “The Jerk”, “Popeye” in the late 70’s, and the last movie I saw that decade was “10” on New Year’s Eve, 1979.

Back in 73-74, they had a Marx Brothers festival. The first one I remember is a double feature of “A day at the Races” and “ At the Circus”. Went back the next week and it was, I think, “A Night at the Opera” and can’t remember the other one. In between movies, they played the audio to the Groucho album Live at Carnegie Hall.
