Roxy Theatre
While initially licensed for 450, 1923 box plans showed 406 seats. A combination of better larger seating over the years, and an enlargement of the projection area in 1936, resulted in a reduced capacity of 350. While only 202 places are illustrated here for booking purposes, the unreserved Front Stalls section probably made up the numbers. The auditorium had a flat floor and the projection ports were only slightly above head level. Introduction of the name ‘Roxy’ in 1936 may be a tribute to Bernard Albert Dyer - architect of the original 1923 hall, who had later worked on the somewhat more ornate Parramatta Roxy (1930).
