Roxy Theatre
Two years after adding a new frontage, Woodrick applied to introduce stadium seating in the rear half of the auditorium and extend the screen end of the building - increasing seating capacity from 350 to 498 (using plans he had commissioned again from Crick & Furse). Government permission was granted in June 1939, however a loan negotiated for the work immediately fell through, and nothing was done. Meanwhile local residents of the ‘Springwood Development League’ continued to grumble about the standard of facilities available for community functions.
