LEFT: Below the Georges Chevalier 1925 Art Deco chandelier, shortly before opening, an artisan puts finishing touches to the ‘Three Graces’ alcove on the stairs landing – designed to suggest a Florentine Garden - leading to the Dress Circle foyer. Over the years, the chandelier needed to be lowered regularly for cleaning - due to glass staining caused by patrons smoking in the foyer areas. RIGHT: The three marble damsels – reportedly newly carved in Florence - graced the staircase for sixty years, but where are they now?
