Regent Theatre
With the novelty of ‘sound’ wearing off, a change of policy was instituted, and on 12th December 1930 there was a ‘Grand Reopening’, and stage acts - largely curtailed for two years - resumed. A new 20 piece ’Regent Symphony Orchestra’ was formed under the baton of Stanley Porter. He had been an early victim of sound, when his orchestra at the Haymarket Theatre had been dropped on 20th April 1929 – as soon as that cinema converted to ‘talkies’.
