Regent Theatre
Hoyts ended their tenancy at the Regent on 11th February 1975 screening “Paper Tiger”. A big live show (“Sgt. Pepper”) opened a few weeks later. At this time Hoyts had found themselves with a surplus of films to screen – a situation exacerbated by the Regent having had so many live stints. The company leased the Capitol for 18 months (Oct. 1974 - March 1976) to try and move the backlog before the December 1976 opening of the Hoyts Centre. (The Rivoli - listed here - was never an actual Hoyts venue but was operated for a time by the distribution company Seven Keys, who released “Tommy” in Australia.)

Ooops – Sorry for the 1975 typo above: With their Entertainment Centre due to open next door by Christmas 1976, Hoyts vacated the Regent at a time of their choosing - after the 1975 Xmas School Holiday period - on 11th February 1976 not 75.
